People in literary and art circles prefer to call Lee Shien-Wen, the founder of Lion Art, "Mr. Lee."

Founded in 1971, the Lion Art Monthly suspended its publications in 1996. For 26 years, Mr. Lee had regarded the development of Taiwan's art as his life-long career and his insistence on and passion of art. It also witnessed and recorded the golden age of the development of Taiwan's art.

In the past decade, Mr. Lee has left downtown Taipei to reside in Zhongli's countryside, where he picked up his paint brush to sketch the people and landscapes around him. The motifs range from the flowers and plants in his backyard, the change of the seasons, and the depiction of Taiwan's landscape. With ultra-simple brushstrokes and light water-ink, he records his sincere introspection of art, the land, and life.

In 2012, Mr. Lee collected his thinking, speeches, and writings in his book A Path to Hidden Beauty. Invited by the National Central University, he debuted his first solo exhibition of his water-ink painting in his life. In early spring this year, the NCCU Art and Culture Center invited Mr. Lee to visit our campus and wander along the river banks, where he watched Taipei 101. Then, he was invited to hike along Zhangshan Trail. Along the way, he was amazed by the natural landscape in NCCU's campus. He still could not forget the problem in Taiwan's art education—students were not encouraged and cultivated to observe and ponder the happenings in everyday life. NCCU Art and Culture center ponders: Is it possible to experiment the synergy of the education of beauty with other disciplines?

NCCU Art and Culture Center would like to thank Mr. Lee to collaborate in the creation project of "Wen Shan Memoirs." In a period of one year, the artist is invited to reside in NCCU to sketch and record the landscapes around campus. With the perspective of NCCU, the artist is invited to depict the aesthetic map of Wenshan in the aspects of nature and humanity.

A Path to Hidden Beauty-Lee Shien-Wen's solo exhibition is the pact between NCCU Art and Culture Center and all the visitors. We invite you to visit the Center this time next year to share the water-ink paintings in "Wenshan Memoirs."
