Walking
NCCU Art & Culture Center

"Poetry walks with words. History walks with the past. Greatness walks with meekness. Walking walks with walking." This is a section of Chu Ko's Journey, which announces the commencement of the Art & Culture Center's autumn program in 2012.

Journey 1: Art walks with romantic deeds
Chu Ko, aka Yuan Te-Hsing, is a poet, painter, art critic, and bronze vessel specialist at the National Palace Museum. In addition, he was also a core person of Taiwan's modern art movement in the 1970s. In March 2011, he died at the age of eighty, leaving us many exciting works. Recommended by Professor Yu Tien-Tsun, his old friend, from the Department of Chinese in NCCU, the Art & Culture Center will sponsor the Chu Ko Memorial Art Exhibition and the Conference on the Development of Contemporary Art in collaboration with Chu Ko Culture and Arts Foundation to commemorate this romantic, unique cross-over artist.

Journey 2: The story walks with art and music
In the "Travelling with Ears - Stories of Sound and Light" in "The Art & Music" series projected by Ms. Chung Shefong of the College of Communication, she invited musicians from Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, and Israel in the production of this album. In workshops, she provides the opportunities for wandering artists to converse with the audience in the Starry Plaza of the Art & Culture Center. In the venue, the artists will tell stories with sound and images with the means of sound engineering, creative methods, and the installations of light and shadow.

In the film series, the movies - "The Life Book," "Seventeen," "Where are you," and "The list of Immortals" directed by four young directors are chosen from the 2012 PTS Holiday Cinema.

Journey 3: Tradition walks with determination
In the performance series, we invited Wu Zhao Nan Xiang Sheng & Theater Association, Taipei Puppet Theater, and The Fujian Pear Garden Opera Experimental Theatre to venture in new performance style by experimenting with different forms in traditional Chinese arts, such as stand-up comedy, puppet show, and pear garden opera. Meanwhile, "An Endless Labyrinth" is a crossover multimedia show that integrates images, music, installation art, and physical dance. It is the latest work of TransArt NCTU, which is active in international exchange and performing in the international arena.

Journey 4: The classic walks with time
In the Lecture of life aesthetics, we have invited the renowned GuQin player – Profess Yeh Shao-Kuo of Tamkang University to perform in the Taiwan Campus GuQin Performance Tour 2012 to introduce the art of GuQin in a comprehensive manner. In addition, with the commencement of the public architecture on campus, architectural aesthetic has become an important issue for us. On this occasion, we have invited Professor Yu-Tung Liu, the Vice President of Asia University, to tell us firsthand information regarding the first building – "The Art Museum of the Asia University" designed by the world-class Japanese architect Andō Tadao. In his speech, Professor Liu is going to explore Tadao's trajectory and aesthetic in his architecture in the past decade.

If walking is an aesthetic and attitude, then let us practice walking with a sense of beauty in the autumn of 2012 at NCCU.
