Last semester, the faculty and students of NCCU enjoyed the splendid music festival "Youths Love to Create," designed to capture the vision of creation and activate the imagination of building up a "Musical DreamWorks" for university students.

Young people of every generation have their own distinctive approach to music and actively engage in developing it and transcending it to create new sounds. The folk song renaissance in the U.S. and Europe in the 50s aroused a sense of social consciousness among singers and listeners alike. The spirit of Woodstock in the 60s spontaneously reached a climax at the 3-day music festival. The style and spirit of such epochal music continue to inspire composers throughout the world.

Then what about our era? What do we sing and listen to? Are the songs all inspired by the same rhythm, blurry context and monotonous style and sound affected by globalization? Do the songs all come from the same rhythm, singer's hairstyle, costume, melody and audio effects? If a song reflects our life, how can we be limited by a single type of sound produced and broadcasted in different climates, humidity, cultural backgrounds and languages?

The forests and seas of Taiwan gave birth to a variety of folk song cultures developed by different tribes. A minority of composers still insists on keeping the origins and disseminating them, providing us with the good fortune to hear "these differences." The Art & Culture Center will provide opportunities for you to hear such "differences" this semester and offer young people who love to create another starting point to think.

Sheng-Xiang Lin, Kimbo Hu, Inka Mbing and Nger-Nger are outstanding musicians who perform their arts around the world. They all became aware of their cultural roots and the aesthetics of creation very early in their lives. In addition to inviting them to perform, we will hold a pre-show seminar with the participation of outstanding representatives from relevant fields to instruct us in how to listen to folk songs sung in different languages and performed in different ways. We will encounter completely new musical scenery never experienced before.
